Apply to the English Language Institute (Local Residents)

Spring Application Deadline - December 1, 2009

STEP 1.  APPLICATION

STEP 2.  PLACEMENT TESTING
After being accepted, you will need to schedule an appointment to take the COMPASS ESL Placement Test.

STEP 3.  REGISTRATION
You should complete Pre-Registration online, by phone (706) 507-8070, or in person at the Elizabeth Bradley Turner Center between 8:30 am-4:30 pm, Monday-Friday on or before the Registration & Placement Deadline for the semester you will start.

Class space is limited so don't miss our Early Application Deadline.

Apply to the English Language Institute (International Student/F1 Visa Students)

To be admitted to the ELI program, international applicants must complete the following steps FOUR TO SIX WEEKS before the session begins (for exact dates, check the International Application Deadlines):

STEP 1. APPLICATION [English Language Institute Application (PDF)]
Complete and sign an official application for ELI admission. Please be sure to complete the entire application form, or your application may not be accepted.

STEP 2. FINANCIAL GUARANTEE [English Language Institute Financial Guarantee (PDF)]
Show proof of financial responsibility if you intend to study on an F-1 (student) visa.
Use the ELI's Financial Guarantee. This financial guarantee must be supported by the applicant's new link official bank statement, if self-supporting, or by a sponsor's letter and an official bank statement, if supported by sponsor.

STEP 3. CERTIFICATE OF IMMUNIZATION [Certificate of Immunization (PDF)]
Complete and sign a Certificate of Immunization (both the student and a physician must sign).

STEP 4. APPLICATION FEE
Pay the non-refundable $30 (as of November 1, 2008) application fee by credit card, cashier's check or money order. If you choose to pay by credit card, you can do so over the phone by calling Student Account Services at (706) 507-8897 (Between 8:00AM to 5:00PM, Monday-Friday, EST).

When we receive your complete application and documents, we will send immigration documents (I-20) by mail to all F-1 accepted applicants within 3-4 weeks. You must present this form to the authorities in your country to obtain a visa to study in the U.S.A.

STEP 5. MANDATORY ORIENTATION REGISTRATION
As soon as you are accepted and make your travel plans to come to CSU, you must go to this website to register for our Mandatory International Student Orientation hosted by Adam Johnson of the Center for International Education.

ADDITIONAL STEPS TO APPLY FOR HOUSING:

STEP 6. HOUSING APPLICATION
Once you have been accepted by Columbus State University, you will receive an acceptance letter with your new CSU ID number on it.  Using this number, you will be eligible to apply for student housing.  If you intend to live in CSU housing, you must fill out a separate Residence Life application, pay a $25 non-refundable application fee, and pay a $300 security deposit.  More information on housing prices.
